Old to New

Three examples of my own artwork and how it has progressed.
The Butterflies were done in 2008 in chalk pastel. The oil painting of a girl with a book in hand was done this year. And same with the folded up jeans, those in pencil. Sorry for the glares, but all of them are pretty close to the real thing. xD

Art museums.

Well I'm gonna ramble about some stuff here for a moment. For one: I recently made a fan page for myself (well my art) so my friends could see what i've been doing. And if you've stumbled upon this blog because of that, sweet because you get to enjoy some of my own insights on my paintings and artwork that I don't really post on facebook. (and some bad grammar! sorry.) Another cool thing: I've decided to go to school for art now, and that's a big decision but deff something I can build off of because I'll need to find which area i do really want to go into...I could probably go into every major they have at my school because i like them all and am pretty good at all of them. So this summer I've been racking up on different talents, trying my hand at murals, sketching a TON and even trying to practice my oils every once in a while. Random fact: I've been doing crafts all my life (no surprise) but the cool thing now is to go through the junk in my room and finding the good crafts and seeing how much i've improved till today. It's pretty neat. That reminds me, today my mom's cousin (yeah i know that's kinda strange oh well) came up for a visit and we had this huge talk about art and books. (We're into some pretty cool stuff now.) Like my mom got some new book titles to share with her and she showed me some cool artists (Bev Doolittle, being my fave so far.) Also we had already decided we wanted to spend a day in an art museum, so in a few weeks, I'm getting a ride to the [big city near us]'s art museum and that means a pretty hardcore day. I cant wait to take in all the awesome paintings and the history that goes behind it! Also, the EXTREMELY AWESOME thing about when we're going is this one famous artist's work will be there!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so stoked for that (stoked=excited, not high!!) So yeah that's my cool really cool rambles, i hope you read all of it, if not i'm sorry you missed out on all my exciting news. xD peace, and check it.

Artwork.

My own artwork, of course is never as good as all the famous artists, but i'm young, so I guess I got time. But I'd really like to develop my style. I think I'll be able to pursue art as a career, because honestly I think I'm one of the best artists in my art class, at least with painting, and that is what I would like to study. I've only 3 stinkin' oil paintings in my lifetime, but that's because I discovered what oils are like a year ago. Since then I've gotten a whole bunch of canvases to do some more artwork on. But my life never allows for me to paint when i want. i don't really like my art, but everyone else does, so i guess it's pretty sweet, according to what they say. and i really hate abstract but i wanted to try it, so i painted an abstract piece. i kinda failed, beings as i'm not very experienced in working with oils. but it was very fun, i have to say.

Realism

New York Movie. Edward Hopper. 1939. oil on canvas.

I've studied art enough to figure out my favorite kind of art. And it's gotta be Realism, like socialism realism. I enjoy the dark and dreariness of the paintings; the random windows and empty alleyways. But I really enjoy the message behind the American Scene Painters. It's like since we are sorta beginning to go through another depression type era, I can relate to both of these types of art. The thing I really like about the art is the details of the paintings, how actually REAL it looks. And most of them were done in oils, my favorite medium.

I had to do a project last year on a certian artist, and I choose Edward Hopper. Hopper was a perfect example of both the darkness of the Depression and the hope people had. Originally, he was a student of one of The Eight. But then he went to France for a while and painted. When he came back, he practiced this dark art, but as he got older, the 1940s and 50s, he painted scenes at his vacation spots by the beach and in places in the Midwest.

Bands

Everyone likes good music.  Whether it be rap, hip-hop, classical or rock, we all enjoy it. Well, I just happen to enjoy mainly two different types of music, Christian and powerpop. Thanks to a couple bands I've now been able to enjoy both those genres put together. These bands, I'm going to unofficially say that they are officailly awesome! They are really good bands, too, but I think you really have to like the music to really like them. (which i do so, yay!) Check em out:
Capital Lights
Divided By Friday

I guess they are both on myspace, but I found them on purevolume. So yeah I have "This is an Outrage" (CL) and I listen to it all the time. I just like how they combine Christianity with this type of music I absolutely love!
